Peer Mentorship Program

Peer Mentorship Program

Shoebox PR has a new peer mentorship program, and it is FREE for all visual artists.

“Nothing great was ever accomplished alone.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Shoebox has created a peer mentorship program to enable artists to work together to advance their careers and studio practice. We know the value of having a support network to help guide your art practice. Now more than ever community and connection are needed.

Many successful artists have benefitted from having a mentor in their lives. A mentor can help you see your work from different angles, develop your art practice, motivate, inspire, teach and offer encouragement. Mentors can share resources, tools and techniques from their own experiences to help the artist grow personally and professionally. An artist mentor can hold you accountable and build up your confidence. With this brand new program, each artist is the mentor and mentee. When you teach AND share, you get a new level of learning.

It is easy for artists to work long hours in the studio, alone and in their own head. Our experience and talking with other artists, we know how vital connection and community are for helping artists get through the day, get past blocks and be inspired.

How our program works:

*Send in your Name/email address/phone number/website to shoeboxpeermentorship@gmail.com

*We will pair you up with another artist and send you and your peer mentor an email to get started.

*You can be a peer mentor with more than one artist.

*Each artist is the mentor AND mentee.

*Everyone has different experiences, please be open to sharing yours. Be kind, generous and ready to help each other.

*You don’t have to live in Los Angeles to join our program.

*It is both of your responsibility to maintain the relationship. You set the rules for your mentorship. You can text every day, talk once a week, email whenever you have questions. The idea is to check-in with each other; motivate, empower and help each other build and sustain a thriving, successful art career.

*Start by being clear about the specific goals or intentions you have for your art career. Show each other your work, ask for critique.

*This is the opportunity to share resources and introductions in the art world with gallerists, curators, collectors. Share open calls, curated shows, and events they should check out.

*If it doesn’t work out with someone, send us another email and we will pair you up with someone else.

*All career levels and experience welcome. We lift each other up by working together.

*Mentorship is something that can benefit you throughout your entire your lifetime – you are never too old or too experienced to receive guidance from someone.

*You will be paired up with another artist for 3 months. At the end of 3 months you can choose to start over with a new artist, resubmitting your information again or you can continue on with your artist pair if you are liking the mentorship you are both receiving.
